starting here:
Why the Human Brain Is a Poor Judge of Risk

and then going here
Being Analog
http://www.jnd.org/dn.mss/being_analog.html

leads a person to examine a lot of what makes up the world, and the way that people work. I pondered it for a long time while reading this, and came up with so many topics that branch of in so many direstions leading to several different discussions. But the first one that came to mind is a fairly simple reduction of a concept presented near the beginning of "Being Analog"

Communication requires
Error-Tolerence requires
Empathy requires
Honesty requires
Transperancy

read those essays, please.
Comments:
There's a bit in the book, Freakonomics about this. Most parents have no trouble letting their children go over to a house with a swimming pool, yet a lot would not let their child go to a house that they knew contained a gun. Yet, you probably know percentage-wise which is more likely to be the scene of a fatal accident.
